Our First Aid course in Herndon Virginia, teaches the proper treatment for minor and life-threatening conditions. During the steps that occur prior to approaching the situation and after the initial steps, one is often required to contact emergency medical services or call 911/EMS. There are several circumstances where a person is required to call 911/EMS. These steps taught in our first aid training adhere to the guidelines set forth by the American Heart Association and the Red Cross. The AHA and the Red Cross are excellent resources for information. The Red Cross also provides excellent classes and provides medical advice. The American College of Pediatric Medicine provides further guidelines that are also adhered to for infants.

Properly using an inventory of a first aid kit and first aid manual are essential. Some of the topics in the first aid manual are bee stings, minor burns, allergic reactions, chest pain, difficulty breathing, a broken bone, rescue breathing, stop bleeding, blood loss, shock / mental health, cardiac arrest, heart attack, abdominal thrusts for choking, an additional life-threatening condition and the prevention of further injury. Basic First Aid does not include a CPR class or cardiopulmonary resuscitation / automated external defibrillator. Still, first aid training covers and reviews the identification of cardiac arrest, blood flow, and rescue breathing concepts. Medical treatment includes mental health first aid training. Basic First Aid can save someone’s life and provide medical care during a situation that requires CPR – cardiopulmonary resuscitation. After completing first aid training and using a first aid kit, it is recommended that a person takes the CPR class and adequately learns how to perform CPR, rescue breathing, chest compressions, direct pressure, and when to contact emergency medical services or call 911. Regardless of providing timely first Aid during a medical emergency, emergency services and professional medical care are often required.
